Access to higher education has become a privilege for a few in society rather than a right for all.
Pursuing professional courses – getting admitted in those and having the economic resources to pay for them – is out of reach for most Indians.
High-quality coaching classes that help students succeed in entrance examinations are extremely expensive and out of reach for most students.
The cost of enrolling in these classes is five to twenty times yearly income of the household. Without quality coaching one’s chances of succeeding in entrance examinations are extremely small.

Even if one succeeds, the cost of higher education is a crushing burden for the majority of Indians.
The cost of pursuing engineering and MBBS education from a Government college, after all fee concessions, is more than 6 Lakhs over five years (with a fee component of more than half of it).
Even for technical courses like B.Sc. Nursing, B.Sc. Agriculture, Chartered Accountancy, the costs are more than 2 Lakhs per year.
This becomes 5 to 10 times more if one wants to attend Private colleges. Over this, our society burdens girls with constraints on mobility, behavior, and limited investments in their future.
In a small attempt to alleviate this inequality of opportunity, JEF provides scholarships for higher education to talented, underprivileged students. Scholarships are provided to technical courses like Polytechnic, B.Sc Agriculture, B.Sc. Nursing and Professional courses like Engineering, Medical, and Chartered Accountancy.​
Impact Of JEF Scholarship
In 2023-24, we had over 500 applicants across 14 different streams, and scholarships worth Rs. 31+ Lakhs were awarded to 271 applicants
55 percent of JEF scholars are girls and more than 70 percent are from rural areas across 90 villages in Jalna
The challenges these scholars have faced and overcome are breathtaking and inspiring
In the last three years, JEF has awarded scholarships worth Rs. 75 Lakhs to over 605 children through the help of various donors
All donations to the scholarship program are fully transferred to the JEF scholars, and the Trust bears the 7-10% overhead of administering the scholarship
